We are experiencing temporary technical issues with the limitations of html. The NEXT link has been removed as it was failing to work, please use the PREVious link to scroll through the preview images. Flashplayer may be necessary in order for you to continue enjoying these previews, once the technical issue has been put aside (I'm replacing how the images will be accessed)...or something like that...perhaps. The artist is still debating the virtues of not being accessible via certain Pads and Phones.

Thanks for visiting!

This portfolio page shows a sampling of the first thirty-five cards that were completed. The artist will not be previewing all 78 images as he does not wish this site to become a resourse for copyright violating miscreants. The artist encourages the curious to visit Aeclectic.net, to read a summary review by one of the deck's authors.

How did this deck get started?

About nine years ago, the members of what became Expanding Dimensions LLC, found in each other the common goal of creating a truly contemporary interpretation of the tarot. Beyond that, the story of how and their earliest days together is mostly a tale for them to relate. As they continued to work out the concept of their deck they began a search for an artist to help them realize their vision.

The earliest artists they interviewed fell into two broad categories. Persons who understood the authors' goals, but whose work fell short of their standards. And persons who did good work, but who did not understand the authors' goals (one of whom (called "The Artist from Hell") was even hostile toward the underlying ideas of tarot). It is this last person that this artist least understands; like the woman season one of "Work of Art: The Next Great Artist" who seemed to consider herself to be above commercial work. Despite the contention that artists are some sort of lazy good-for-nothings, artists are the creators of PRODUCTS that, although risky investments, have a very high rate of return whenever they turn out good.

In 2007, Chris Wilkey had a studio at Louisville, KY's Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center. Two of the authors found him in his studio one day and, liking much of what they saw, talked to him about tarot and related subjects. When asked if he ever might create a tarot deck on his own, he responded that it would not be any time soon, if ever. "Why not?" Because he didn't have a deep enough understanding to make a MEANINGFUL reinterpretation, he replied. Of the many decks he'd seen up to that point and since, that claim to be contemporary, only style and technique of rendering had really been addressed (there are only a few exeptions to this). These other various decks failed to really update the CONTENT of tarot, only redesigning the surface. Not only did Chris create good work, he understood the goals.

Chris is very happy to have had the opportunity to participate in this project that brings a new vision to this divinatory and psychological tool. It has given him a deeper understanding of his own intuition and of a subtler world. He looks forward to future projects of this and other sorts.

Scheduled to appear in Volume V of the Encyclopedia of Tarot, published by US Games Systems, Inc., this interpretation seeks to bring tarot imagery into the contemporary era, making the cards' meanings clearer for the Third Millineum seeker.
